Hakutsuru-History
The history of the Hakutsuru Seizō 白鶴 製造 (White Crane Manufactory), led by Maja Takaitoshi Okazaki, dates back to the thirties of the last century when massive spread of martial arts and karate had happened among the broad population on Japanese islands. Okazaki San, along with 6 tailors, established a small manufactury in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture on Honshu Island.
In addition to the traditional clothing for the Japanese people, these skilled tailors began to sew and design a specific martial arts clothing, which later developed and expanded among the supporters of the white GI.
Gradually, Hakutsuru became successful and their products became more and more desirable and popular. Master Okazakis main principle was that each fabric and yarn was chosen personally, each new model was tested by itself, had been worn for several months before it was put into production. No GI or kimono left the manufactory until it had passed his mothers hands. He also built his reputation. The diligence and precision of the tailors of this workshop spread good name from Nagoya to Tokyo, directly to the imperial court. Thanks to a good name, Hakutsuru won state orders for the production of equals for 5 of the 7 Imperial Universities - Old 帝国 大学 kyū-teikoku daigaku. In this period, Hakutsuru Seizo, with more than 50 employees, reached biggest success and brand popularity has reached its peak, its products have been brought to the attention from students to martial arts practitioners... Unfortunately, World War II marked the whole Japan, and the Hakutsuru Manufactory suffered with it. After the war it failed to follow on to its successful period and because of the death of Master Okazaki in 1947, the manufactory ceased to produce and dissolved the employees. 70 years since the end of production, fans of the Hakutsuru brand have bet on goodwill and reputation and have fully restored their production.
And the fabulous Hakutsuru - White crane rose from ash ... The new generation of Hakutsuru products focuses exclusively on karate products like GI and OBI. Each GI with its name precisely specifies on which wearer it is targeted. The council for karate beginners is named Hakutsuru Kohai, for more experienced Senpai, and for masters such as Sensei, Renshi and Shihan.
